Year 5
Welcome to Year 5's Class Page
Class Teacher: Miss Russell
Teaching Assistant: Miss Beaumont
Year 5 marks the beginning of Upper Key Stage Two which means you’re nearing the end of your primary school career! On this page you’ll discover information about our timetables and expectations.
In Year 5, we will be learning lots of new things – our History topics will cover the local area and why coal and cotton have been so important to Leigh. We’ll also be looking further back in time to discover the legacy of the Ancient Greeks. In Geography, we’ll learn new mapping skills by using Ordnance Survey maps, study rivers and the water cycle and we’ll find out more about the wider world by learning about Brazil.
This year, Year 5 are very lucky to act as play leaders for Key Stage One children at lunchtimes. This means we get to celebrate and model our Christian Values to others in our school. We are always on the lookout for anyone living out our Values and nominate classmates for the Values Award which is presented every Friday. Our teachers are also always looking for the Star of the Week and recipients of the Resilience Award and the Spirit of the Games Award.
Important Information:
Things we need every day:
- Reading book and planner
- Water bottle
Our main PESSPA session is on TUESDAY so PE kits need to be worn on this day.
Homework:
On Mondays children get their new spellings for the week. Part of their homework is to learn them throughout the week ready for a spelling test on Friday. Written spelling/handwriting homework is also set on Fridays and this needs to be brought back by the following Thursday. Maths homework will be set weekly on Times Tables Rockstars or Purple Mash (please contact Miss Devine for login details).
As part of our homework, we are expected to read at least four times per week at home. We ask that an adult signs their child’s planner so that our teachers can see that reading is taking place.
If you ever need anything, the Y5 Team can be contacted directly on ClassDojo.
